Garden Documentation

James Rose designed spontaneously and directly on-sites in the 1970s and 1980s. As a consequence there is little documentation of his designs in the forms of plans or other drawings. Since 1993 the James Rose Center has been seeking out surviving projects and documenting them, producing a series of drawings and photographic images; as well as by interviews with his clients when possible. Rose may not have approved, but we believe the record provided by this original scholarship will be useful to both historians and designers. To date the Center has located and documented dozens of his projects from this era. The Germano Garden, illustrated here, is one example.
