Historically Modern: Session 2 - Ridgewood - Wilderness to Commuter Suburb

  • The James Rose Center 506 East Ridgewood Avenue Ridgewood, NJ, 07450 United States (map)

For our second talk this October, we explore Ridgewood’s transformation from Lenape lands and Dutch farms to a vibrant suburban village in the 1950s. This presentation highlights key milestones—from the arrival of the railroad and the village’s incorporation in 1894, to the rise of garden-style neighborhoods and postwar expansion. Discover how transportation, civic pride, and community planning shaped Ridgewood’s unique identity.

This informative talk is lead by James Diorio and is graciously provided in conjunction with the Ridgewood Historical Society.

All proceeds benefit the continued maintenance and restoration of the Center.
